Application Scenarios

Semiconductor devices made from SiC, which is a third-generation semiconductor core material. SiC has excellent electrical characteristics such as high voltage resistance, high temperature resistance, high frequency, and radiation resistance. They are widely used in new energy vehicles, photovoltaic power generation, rail transit, smart grids, 5G communication and other fields

New Energy Vehicle

The excellent characteristics of SiC devices, such as high power density, high frequency and low loss, can not only significantly optimize the efficiency of automotive electric drive system, but also help charging piles and on-board chargers to bear more charging power and greatly shorten the charging time. In addition to the application of main drive inverter and DC charging pile, SiC devices can also be used in on-board charger (OBC), DC-DC converter, BMS relay and air conditioning compressor and the like to comprehensively improve the performance, reliability and stability of new energy vehicles.

Wind and Solar Energy Storage

The application of SiC devices in wind generators, photovoltaic inverters, and energy storage converters can significantly improve the energy conversion efficiency and reliability of the system, prolong the equipment cycle life, reduce equipment volume and weight, and achieve lower LCOE (levelized cost of energy). The outstanding characteristics of SiC’s radiation resistance and corrosion resistance can effectively improve the efficiency of photovoltaic and wind power applications in sea, plateau and other harsh environments.

Rail Transit

The application of SiC devices in the traction converter system of rail transit can increase the efficiency of a traction converter device by over 10%, meeting the requirements of large capacity, lightweight and energy-saving traction converter equipment in rail transit, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the system. In addition, the application of SiC devices can also break through the silicon-based limit, further improving the performance and reliability of rail transit traction systems.

Electricity and Smart Grid

The application of SiC devices in server power supply and UPS (uninterruptible power supply) can reduce system energy consumption, maintain stable power supply, and empower intelligent social development. The extensive introduction of SiC power electronic transformers in flexible DC transmission equipment can greatly simplify circuit topology, significantly reduce device volume, improve transmission and transformation efficiency, and help the reconstruction of smart grids.

5G Communication and National Defense

SiC based gallium nitride RF devices have the advantages of good thermal conductivity of SiC and high efficiency and high power density of gallium nitride in the high frequency range. They can help 5G base stations achieve lightweight, activization, and multi-channel, becoming the mainstream choice for 5G base station power amplifiers. They can also help high-performance radars achieve miniaturization, high efficiency, and high reliability. These advantages have led to significant development of SiC in aerospace, meteorological monitoring, military industry and other fields.
