2023/05/03

Infineon entered into a wafer and ingot supply agreement with TanKeBlue, a Chinese SiC supplier, to further promote the diversification of its SiC supplier system.

[May 3, 2023, Munich, Germany News] Infineon Technologies AG (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY) is promoting the diversification of its silicon carbide (SiC) supplier system, and has entered into a long-term agreement with Chinese SiC supplier Beijing TanKeBlue Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “TanKeBlue”) to ensure more and competitive supply of SiC materials. TanKeBlue will supply Infineon with high-quality and competitive 150mm SiC wafers and ingots for manufacturing SiC semiconductor products, which are expected to account for a double-digit share of Infineon’s long-term demand.

The agreement concluded between Infineon and TanKeBlue will help ensure the stability of the entire supply chain, while meeting the growing demand for SiC semiconductor products in the Chinese market in the fields such as automotive, solar energy, and electric vehicle charging applications and energy storage systems. It will drive the rapid development of emerging semiconductor materials. According to this agreement, the first phase will focus on the supply of 150mm SiC materials, but TanKeBlue will also provide SiC materials with a diameter of 200mm to assist Infineon in its transition to wafers with a diameter of 200mm.

Ms. Angelique van der Burg, Chief Procurement Officer at Infineon Technologies, said, :"In order to meet the growing demand for SiC, Infineon is significantly increasing its capacity in Malaysia and Austria. Meanwhile, in order to provide our customers with comprehensive products, Infineon is currently doubling its investment in SiC technology and product portfolio, and implementing a multi-supplier and multi-country procurement strategy to enhance its supply chain resilience to benefit our vast majority of customer group. The material performance of TanKeBlue is very outstanding. We are delighted to sign a competitive agreement with them."

Yang Jian, General Manager of TanKeBlue, said, “We are delighted that Infineon, leader of the global power semiconductor market, has become our customer. We look forward to working together with Infineon. TanKeBlue will continuously improve SiC materials and develop a new generation of 8-inch wafer technology. Infineon is our outstanding customer in this field.”

Infineon is putting forth effort to increase its SiC production capacity to achieve its goal of occupying 30% of the global market share by 2030. It is expected that Infineon’s SiC production capacity will increase by 10 times by 2027. Infineon’s new plant in Kulim, Malaysia is scheduled to put into production in 2024, which will supplement the capacity of the plant in Villach, Austria. So far, Infineon has provided SiC semiconductor products for over 3,600 automotive and industrial customers worldwide.
